A contractor friend was going to do some remodeling and upon arriving found termites had been(and still were)active for obviously many years. Extensive damage was done. Also, pests (bugs) were all over the house.
Interestingly enough, a very recent termite inspection bond was issued at a cost of $317 indicating the home was termite free.
The contractor called the local Orkin office and after much urging, got the regional manager to come on-site. He agreed to treat the house (hopefully at no additional charge) but took no responsibility for the damage. Even though they allowed it to progress over the years by not performing the inspection she was paying for.
Obviously I'm not very happy that they would take advantage of a senior citizen. The BBB, Bay County attorney and Florida Attorney General will receive complaints from us.
I've sent a note to Orkin/Rollins and hopefully someone will get in touch.
If this is resolved to our satisfaction, I will post it here.
Until you hear more, this is an ongoing complaint.

| 1. Written by LBlanks, on 16-11-2009 09:31 Some updates to this issue: I spoke with one of the VP's at Rollins, who owns Orkin, and she committed to assisting, which she has done. The local Orkin manager in Panama City, FL called and gave his side of the story. He had been very helpful when this first happened and continued to follow up. My mother traveled to Florida this past week and the local manager called and met with her at the house pointing out what they found and what had been done to correct the problem. At the same time, the regional President called to let me know he was following up as well. We didn't have a "Repair" contract so never expected reimbursements on the repairs done due to the damage. However, we did have a "spray as necessary" contract which was never done in the 27 years life of the service. Since it is common practice to treat a home in Florida every 5 to 7 years, I'm not sure why this was not done nor recommended by Orkin. It is something I would expect from a termite treatment service. At this point we are satisfied with the responses received. I'm still concerned that this slipped by for so long, but the attention is there now and maybe it won't occur again. |
